The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this capital town of Antique has already notified 1,727 deactivated voters to avail of satellite registration in reactivating their voting status.

San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Election Officer III lawyer Johnna Catilo said in an interview on Monday that they were deactivated during their Jan. 19 Election Registration Board hearing for failure to cast votes in the past two elections.

Letters or notices were sent through their barangay captains on Jan. 22 after their meeting with the village officials.

The reactivation of registration is necessary for them to participate in the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE).

“They may either come to the Comelec satellite registration, which will be until Jan. 29, or wait for the scheduled registrations in their barangays,” Catilo said.

Aside from deactivated voters, the Comelec also deleted the names of 87 voters who are already dead.

As of today, the Comelec satellite registration at the Robinsons Place in San Jose de Buenavista has already reported 55 applicants as new registrants, for transfer, and for reactivation since it opened on Jan. 21.

“Voters may bring a photocopy of their government-issued identification card for their reactivation as well as for the new registration,” she said.

A Philippine Statistics Authority-issued birth certificate is also needed.

The commission has a Register Anywhere Program for those from other municipalities or places, but who could not go home due to work or other reasons, and would like to register in San Jose de Buenavista. (PNA)
