The local government of this city on Wednesday formally turned over to the Department of Education (DepEd) a brand-new school building for the North City Elementary School.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo spearheaded the inauguration rites attended by DepEd officials led by Schools Division Superintendent Edmark Cabio.

The new building comprises two stories with eight classrooms.

“The funding allocation for the new school building is taken from the city’s surplus budget of more than PHP80 million. And we are putting premium on supporting better education for our students here,” he said.

Remollo, in his last term as mayor, said he is hoping the next administration would continue these efforts in the academic and education sector.

Cabio, meanwhile, thanked the city government for allocating more than PHP60 million to construct additional school buildings to address the lack of classrooms for elementary and high school learners in the city.

“It is a big problem for us to accommodate more learners in the different schools and we are thankful to the city for helping us solve this dilemma,” he said in an interview.

He said this is the first school building to be inaugurated with about five others under construction.

The projects are funded by the city government through its Special Education Fund. (PNA)
