The Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening its collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in a significant move to bolster science and innovation in the country.

In a news release on Friday, Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. underscored the critical role of education in driving scientific and technological progress and cultivating the next generation of scientists and innovators.

Angara highlighted the connection between science and national progress, referencing the DOST hymn that underscores science as the foundation of a prosperous nation.

“That’s the bottomline here,” Angara said, underscoring the shared mission of the two agencies.

Solidum, for his part, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that a strong educational system is essential for advancing science, technology, and innovation.

“We are very happy with the appointment of former Senator, now DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, because we believe that the success of science, technology, and innovation really lies in our educational system starting from our youth,” he said.

The two leaders shared their commitment during the appointment ceremony for campus directors of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS), recognizing the role of specialized schools in fostering young scientific talent.

Newly appointed directors include Rod Allan De Lara (Main Campus), Myrna Libutaque (Western Visayas Campus), and Mary Grace Navarro (Ilocos Region Campus).

Angara and Solidum also discussed expanding efforts beyond PSHS to ensure a broader reach, aiming to create a stronger foundation for innovation across the nation. (PNA)
